The link I posted goes to an article posted by CBS news. The article talks about how Canadians would rather get an extra week of vacation with pay rather than a higher salary. This international report shows that Canada was the only country in the survey which had workers from the U.S., Britain, France, China and Brazil who said they valued time off over more money. I think this report shows how Canadians value time with family and friends more than how much money they make. I know every country has different rules and a different aspect of life but I think the value of time is more important than the value of money. It's good to know that Canadians don't just think about money when it comes to decisions they make.
Very interesting stat Angela. I think the notion you were trying to refer to was "cultural values" or cultural differences (as per textbook).
ReplyDeleteCanada is definitely one of the best countries to live in. The fact that the findings showed Canadians value a "balance" in their lifestyle does not surprise me. On the other hand, many Canadians may have indicated a preference for an extra week of vacation because they work too hard or are overworked. I know for a fact that I have relatives (from other countries) that often say "we work too much and too hard" in Canada. Interesting post.
I agree that Canada is a great country to live in. It is good to spend more time with family and friends. Since Canadian workers work so hard, they deserve longer vacations to spend more time with their family and friends.
ReplyDeleteI love vacations, my family and I go on vacation every summer. Its a time to relax, spend time with family and also a great learning oppurtunity. Sometimes the things you learn outside of the school environment has a greater impact on you. Canadians would rather have a payed vacation than a higher salary because ONE we are pretty lazy and TWO we work hard when we need to. A balance in life is key for every individual to have a satisfyed life.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the getting a raise to be honest, that way I can save up earlier for my retirement and spend more time to relax than getting one week off. Everyone has their opinion some may prefer the vacation as discussed by your topic while others prefer more money.
