Interview with Saudi Arabian princess about woman's rights

This is a 20 minute interview conducted by the wall street journal. This interview was done with the princess of Saudi Arabia. Ameerah (which means princess) was asked questions about the beliefs and rights that woman get in Saudi Arabia. Ameerah has traveled around the world to help many people and she has seen the rights that other woman get that woman in Saudi Arabia do not. One rule in there country is that woman do not get to drive but they can fly planes and many other things but can not drive which is a rule that Ameerah thinks does not make any sense. Saudi Arabia is the only Islamic country that does not allow woman to drive. As a princess she does get some power and is trying to get the voice of there woman heard. After her uncle who is king was given the position of power woman have been given some rights. In order for a big change to help there woman it is not only the kings power but also the governments who have more control over this matter. Ameerah wants there to be written rules so that woman know there rights because for example one time a woman was caught driving and the government decided to give her a lashing because there are no written rules for the woman. I think it is not right that woman are being treated like lower class in there society and they should have equal rights as the men. This is a hard topic to deal with because this is not just a government but also a religion and culture because they are very strict about there religion.

  1. Very intriguing video. As one group spoke about this past week in the presentations, there are many cultural differences in the world, specifically with respect to the treatment and rights of women...So how do you think this article/event is an international business issue (aka how is the role of women affected in the business world in such a nation)??? Looking forward to hearing your response! ;-)

  2. In my opinion, guys should just stop being bias and let the girls have more freedom in Saudi Arabia as opposed to giving them little freedom. Hopefully Ameerah is the person that can give the woman more freedom by showing the people in Saudi Arabia that women are equal to men.

  3. Hey Angela :)
I think that women should be treated more fairly around the world because our gender shouldn't automatically dictate how strong we are.

  4. I think that the pressures on women in Saudi Arabia is much to high and unrealistic that sets women barriers, and restrict them to do what they want to do. This is a prime example of the glass ceiling effect. I think what Ameerah is doing is great. Women should be seen as equal to men. Nice video by the way :)

  5. To begin I have to say that Saudi Arabian women are very good looking. I believe men and women should have equal rights around the world. It is hard to change the viewpoints and culture of Saudi Arabia. Individuals like Princess Ameerah that have the power to change the world can make a difference. For change to happen men in Saudi Arabia should step down while the women should stand up for their rights.

  6. I think that men and women in Saudi Arabia should have equal rights. I don't think it is fair that women in Saudi Arabia are not allowed to drive. Women in Saudi Arabia should be allowed to drive. Suppose their husbands are not around, the women would have to drive their children to places, such as school. They would need to drive.
